This training is for you if you are an aid worker, somatic practitioner, BBTRS practitioner, psychotherapist, breathworker, bodyworker, SE and CI practitioner, and anyone wanting to support refugees or individuals impacted by traumatic events.
One of the wonderful benefits of today’s interconnectedness is our ability to reach out to those in need. Today, we can place a finger on the map—locating regions where trauma is ongoing—and now, we also can send relevant, immediate, hands-on support. By sharing trauma release strategies with local populations, suffering can be reduced in refugees, acute trauma victims, and people affected by natural disasters, war, hunger, and other overwhelming circumstances.
This training outlines a 10-hour course (4 meetings, 2 hours each, plus homework) that allows facilitators to work directly with trauma survivors. Facilitators will be certified to offer 3-hour workshops in their areas after satisfactorily completing the course and demonstrating their ability to conduct a “mock workshop”—by video recording a practice workshop with friends.
The work can be considered as a mini-course of Biodynamic Breathwork & Trauma Release System® (BBTRS). It is based in scientific research related to the nervous system, and how our bodies react in times of high stress. As this particular training is intended to be efficient—so that facilitators can quickly respond to acute need—it will not include everything in our traditional certification processes. However, we are sure that sharing this abbreviated protocol will be immensely helpful—to both facilitators and workshop participants.
In the 10-hour course, facilitators will learn the set structure for the workshop they will provide to participants. The structure is important to follow, as it has been created over decades of practice and includes several important elements that work together. Also, we will address the delicate nature of helping people who have experienced acute crisis. Our work focuses on releasing trauma from the body—but emotional aspects are also touched. It’s possible that workshop participants might also benefit from other kinds of support; we hope that you will offer information on relevant local resources.
Some of the tools you will learn in the training include: setting up the space, making it safe, rounding, breath, movement, unwinding, creative storytelling, resourcing, resonance, compassionate presence, orientation, conscious touch, meditation—and even how to bring this workshop to people who need it in your areas. All of these tools will be shared by certified trainers of BBTRS, and supervision and follow-up mentoring for trainees will be provided by the BBTRS founder and his faculty. After certification, we will be available to answer questions—as we know that these practices will be new to both facilitators and workshop participants.
Although this training will be available for a variety of crisis areas in the world, today the training is focused on those impacted by the war in Ukraine. The entry fees of paying participants from surrounding areas will allow Ukrainian citizens to participate at no cost. All remaining proceeds from this training will be used to support and train future Ukrainian facilitators.
*Workshop participation guidelines: You must have good internet connection, proper lighting, private space
